Airport baggage rules you must know before flying
Avoid airport surprises by checking allowances, restricted items and the rules that apply to every operating airline.
Baggage allowances vary by airline, route, cabin and fare family. The allowance shown on your issued ticket or airline booking is the one to follow, including on codeshare and connecting journeys.
Cabin and checked baggage are different
Airlines may limit cabin baggage by weight, dimensions and number of pieces. Checked baggage may be sold by total weight or by individual pieces, and excess charges are usually higher at the airport.
Pack restricted items correctly
Spare lithium batteries and power banks generally belong in cabin baggage, while sharp objects and larger liquid containers usually belong in checked baggage. Dangerous goods remain prohibited.
